Seattle police arrest suspicous man aboard Victoria Clipper

Victoria Clipper suspectSEATTLE – Seattle Police SWAT officers arrested a suspicious man who allegedly stole one of the Victoria Clipper vessels on Sunday morning.  The SWAT team got aboard the Clipper in Elliott Bay around 10:20 a.m. and arrested the unarmed man, the Seattle Times reported.

The man reportedly told police that he took the boat because he “wanted to go to West Seattle,” SPD Sergeant Sean Whitcomb said.

The 132-foot Victoria Clipper IV was adrift about 300 yards off shore when police arrested the man. Police said it was unclear how he managed to get the boat there, the Times reported.

Seattle Police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to Elliott Bay Sunday morning where the Victoria Clipper was reported adrift around 7 a.m..  Seattle Harbor Patrol units and the Seattle Police Bomb squad responded.

The Clipper was scheduled to depart from Pier 69 at 8a.m. en route to Victoria, British Columbia.  The Clipper provides ferry service between Seattle and Victoria, B.C.
