Troubled 2013 Ford Escape recalled again

DEARBORN (MI) – Ford is once again recalling its Escape SUV’s. The latest recall involves fixing oil and fuel leaks that could spark an engine fire. This is the seventh recall on the redesigned Escape since it went on sale in 2012. Ford says the problem is the result of two separate issues.

The first affects more than 161,000 2013 model year Escapes with 1.6 liter, four-cylinder engines. The automaker says the cylinder heads can overheat and crack, causing oil leaks.

The second recall affects 12,000 of those same SUV’s, in which the fuel lines were incorrectly installed, which could lead to gas leaks.

So far, Ford says 13 oil leak fires have been reported, but no injuries. Dealers will begin making free repairs in January.
