Daybreak Star – Indian Cultural Center im Discovery Park

The Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Discovery Park faces a financial crisis.

SEATTLE- A financial crisis is threatening the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Discovery Park.

According to The Seattle Times, program and governmental cuts have left the center nearly $300,000 in debt. They are currently losing money every month, and the board and community have been looking at options on how to stay afloat.

The city owns Discovery Park but the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation owns the building. They have 60 years remaining on the 99-year lease on the land. If the foundation were dismantled, the center’s ownership would be up for grabs.

Daybreak Star provides services for Native Americans living in Seattle who do not live near their tribal headquarters. They provide services such as parenting classes, work-force readiness and an elders program.
