SPD motorcycle officer seriously injured in crash

SEATTLE -- A 57-year-old Seattle Police Department motorcycle patrol officer was transported to Harborview Medical Center around 9:15 a.m. Monday after his bike was struck by a car near the intersection of 4th Avenue South and South Lander Street.

According to the SPD, the officer suffered serious injuries, but is in stable condition. 

The motorcycle officer was traveling westbound bound South Lander Street just past 3rd Avenue South when a Subaru Forestor struck him. The impact knocked the officer down and injured him, police said. A man who witnessed the accident used the officer's leg radio to notify dispatch. 

A drug recognition expert evaluated the driver of the Subaru and found no indications of impairment, police said. The driver is cooperating with investigators.
