7-year-old Roslyn boy dies after sand pile collapses on him

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- A 7-year-old boy died after he became trapped under a sand pile that collapsed on him outside his home in Roslyn, Wash., the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The boy, Clayton Everley, had been digging a hole in a small sand pile just outside of his house Wednesday when the sand fell in on him, burying his head, arms and shoulders under the weight of the sand, the sheriff’s office said.

The child’s parents found him, started CPR and called 911. Clayton was transported to KVH Hospital and then airlifted to Seattle Children’s Hospital. But the boy died later Wednesday night, the sheriff’s office said.
