Amazon aims for Netflix with original series, streaming service

SEATTLE -- Interested in adding a streaming video to your shopping cart?

Amazon Studios is a subscription streaming TV and video platform to rival Netflix, but with a twist -- the production company want fans to pick its next big project.

Leading the charge is the original comedy series 'Alpha House,' created by 'Doonesbury' cartoonist Garry Trudeau, produced by Clark Johnson (from 'The Wire') and starring John Goodman.

'Alpha House' is about four Republican congressmen who share a house in Washington, D.C.

Amazon put the pilot on its website back in April to get feedback from viewers, and is encouraging filmmakers and screenplay writers to submit their work for a possible deal.

Right now, there are several pilots on the Amazon Studios site. The online store is building its arsenal through viewer ratings, and is shifting through submissions to bring the top projects to the top.

'Alpha House' will be available next month, exclusively to Amazon Prime subscribers.

The service runs $79 per year and includes free, two-day shipping on all its products.
