donjamesSEATTLE — A public memorial was held Sunday afternoon for former Husky football Coach Don James.

The 80-year-old passed away last week from the effects of pancreatic cancer. The Alaska Airlines Arena on the University of Washington campus was packed, with former players, current students, and members of the community honoring the man that did so much for the institution in his tenure there.

James was the Huskies head coach from 1975 to 1992. During that time, he won a National Championship in 1991 and led the Dawgs to the Rose Bowl six times.

Jim Mora Sr., Former Kent State and Washington athletic director Mike Lude, and Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel were among those who attended the service. A video tribute from Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban was played as well.

A ‘DJ’ flag continues to fly a top of the Space Needle in memory of the great and beloved coach.
