Fugitive with gun under car seat gives fake name -- but deputy recognizes him from WMW

shelbyFUGITIVE CAPTURED October 16, 2013 -- Crime Stoppers of Tacoma/Pierce County says Shelby Edson gave Pierce County deputies a fake name when he got pulled over in a car Wednesday. But -- a third deputy recognized Edson from Washington's Most Wanted -- and called his bluff! The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says it all started just before midnight, when deputies pulled over a truck on 224th St. E. and Meridian E. in South Hill. Edson was in the passenger seat, and gave deputies a fake name and birth date. They say he was sweating, breathing heavy, and tried covering his face with his hand while looking down. The Sheriff's Department says another deputy arrived to help, took a look at Edson, knew he was on WMW and had felony warrants -- and put Edson in cuffs. Once in cuffs, deputies say Edson finally came clean -- telling deputies he knew he was wanted for several months, and apologized for lying about his name. Deputies say he also told them he wanted to run from the truck, but the driver had parked too close to another vehicle during the traffic stop. Deputies later made a dangerous discovery under Edson's seat -- a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Edson was booked in the Pierce County Jail for:

The one on his stomach reads ‘Murder Me Now.’ Shelby Edson is 30 years old, and hangs out in Kapowsin, Yelm, and Roy.
