Tesla to make Bond car into real submarine

LOS ANGELES -- Tesla CEO Elon Musk is at it again. The billionaire bought the famous Lotus sports car used in the 1977 James Bond classic "The Spy Who Loved Me" for nearly $1 million.

In the film, Bond, played by Roger Moore is seen driving the car off a pier and into the water. Once submerged, the car sprouts fins and propellers turning it into a submarine. It even fires off a rocket, destroying a helicopter chasing the secret agent.

Now Musk wants to make the submersible car a reality.

“I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric power-train and try to make it transform for real," said Musk in a statement.

The car was discovered in 1989 in a storage container in New York.

A building contractor bought the container for $100, unaware that the car was inside hidden under blankets.
