Anacortes man gets 12 years for possessing child porn

A federal judge has sentenced an Anacortes man to more than a dozen years in prison for having images of child pornography

Conor Broderick, 29, has prior convictions for sex offenses.  He came to the attention of police after two victims reported he was harassing them and threatening to post explicit pictures of them on the Internet.

Anacortes police arrested Broderick last November, after an alleged stalking incident.  The stalking was reported to police after two different women claimed Broderick was threatening to post nude pictures of them on the Internet if they didn’t send him more pictures.

Investigators say while he was in jail, Broderick called a friend and asked them to remove a memory card from his computer.  After monitoring the jail calls, detectives obtained a search warrant and found the memory card and other media storage devices contained more than 100 images of child pornography.

Investigators say while out on bail, Broderick also entered into a “sexting” relationship with a girl in Kentucky who identified herself as a 14-year-old.

“The picture that emerges of the defendant is clear and consistent,”  prosecutors wrote in briefs submitted that asked for the 151-month sentence.  “He is a sexual predator who has a compulsion to have sexual contact with children and view child pornography.”

It continues, “…the defendant to date has shown no ability to control himself.  In his previous child pornography case, he violated his probation by accessing the Internet, viewing more pornography, and not completing his sex therapy treatment.”

Broderick was prosecuted as part of “Project Safe Childhood”, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the U.S. Justice Department to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
