2 Washington men die in British Columbia diving accident

SEATTLE -- The British Columbia Coroners Service identified two men that died in a scuba-diving accident as Robert Scott Young, 60, of Olympia and Harold John Burkholder, 38, of Kent. The two died Oct. 11.

Young and Burkholder were diving at an area known as "the wall" at Snake Island, a small island east of Nanaimo Harbour which is about 54 miles west of Vancouver.

The Ministry of Justice said the two were attempting a deep technical dive when something went wrong. Scott was able to reach the surface, but collapsed shortly afterward and could not be resusciated. Burkholder did not return to the surface and his body was located Oct. 13 in about 256 feet of water.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the coroners office is investigating the incident.
