Man killed in backhoe accident

SEATTLE — The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said that a Cle Elum man was killed Tuesday morning in a backhoe accident. The man was identified as 37-year-old Shawn Tolbert.

Deputies responded to the Thorp Cemetery Road about 9:30 a.m. They determined that Tolbert may have been outside the backhoe and could have possibly placed something on the foot pedal that operates the backhoe’s boom. The boom swung to the side and pinned Tolbert between the stabilizer arm and the backhoe, killing him.
