BELLEVUE — Not only do millennial travelers spend more money while traveling they also complain more often, according to a new study released by Expedia. com and Egencia, its business travel sister company.
The study also found that millennials — those between the ages of 18 and 30 — are more willing to spend company money while traveling for business. Thirty-seven percent said they spend more on room service, compared with 21 percent of travelers between ages 46 and 65.
According to Expedia’s study, hotels, airlines and research firms watch millennials very closely. Expedia said one reason is that millennials travel more than other age groups, both for business and pleasure. Millennials are also more likely to join travel loyalty programs and use mobile technology to book travel.
However, Expedia also said that millennial travelers are more likely to complain about bad travel experiences and often do so online. Twenty-six percent of travelers 34 and younger said they had posted an unfavorable review online in the past year. Among older groups, that percentage dropped to just 14.
