Students suspended for wearing Confederate flags

MAPLE VALLEY -- Two students at Tahoma High School in Maple Valley were suspended for wearing Confederate flags around their necks, according to The Seattle Times.

They decided to do it after seeing another student come to class wearing a gay pride flag.  They said they were showing their Southern pride.  School officials say Confederate flags are banned, because they carry a message of hate, and are disruptive.

The students, both juniors, have been suspended until Monday.
