Man found shot dead in Everett near Sunrise Motor Inn



EVERETT -- A man was found shot dead in a parking lot shared by the Sunrise Motor Inn and a Denny's restaurant in Everett late Tuesday night, police said. No suspects were immediatly found.

According to Everett police, officers were dispatched to the 8400 block of Evergreen Way when police received calls that a man was shot outside of the restaurant. Arriving officers found an injured 39-year-old man from Seattle who ultimately died at the scene. Officers contained the area and located a handgun which is believed to used in the incident.

It was unclear whether the victim was shot at the motel and stumbled outside in the parking lot in front of Denny's or if he was shot in the parking lot, police said.

Police spokesman Aaron Snell said a car that was believed to have sped away from the scene was found at an apartment complex a short distance away, but it was unclear whether the car was actually involved in the shooting. Police detained the owners of the car, and questioned them to determine if they were involved in the shooting.  They were not immediately arrested.

Police are not sure why the victim was at the location. Detectives and major crimes units are investigating the shooting and interviewing witnesses. They are also trying to secure a search warrant for the Sunrise Inn Hotel.
