Firefighters train to battle electric car fires

SEATTLE – Central Pierce Fire and Rescue plans to torch an electric car Friday afternoon – all in the name of safety.

Ed Hrivnak with CPFR says car manufacturers send representatives to teach firefighters how to extinguish fires in electric vehicles. Part of that training includes making sure firefighters learn how to disconnect the vehicle’s power source to reduce the risk of the fire re-igniting.
