Detective's personal life could become issue in murder case

Kimmie Daily went missing in August 2010 and was found murdered a week later.

SEATTLE -- A Pierce County sheriff’s detective’s personal life could become an issue in a high-profile murder case, The News Tribune reported.

The detective, Sgt. Denny Wood, helped investigate the murder of Kimberly "Kimmie" Daily, a 16-year-old Special Olympian who went missing in August 2010 and was later found raped and strangled.

Woods is accused of pursuing a personal relationship with the widow of a victim in an unrelated unsolved homicide case. Details of the relationship have not been made public.

Defense attorneys for the suspect in Daily's murder, Tyler Savage, have requested all information on investigations into alleged misconduct by Wood, saying they could use it to challenge Wood's credibility if he's called to testify in the case. The case is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Court records show Wood is the first law enforcement officer named on the prosecution's witness list, according to the Tribune.
