TACOMA -- Police are looking for thieves who took a large -- and extremely heavy -- plaque from a library in Pierce County, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The Director of Tacoma's Karpeles Manuscript Library. Tom Jutilla, arrived at work Tuesday to find someone had stolen a large bronze plaque from its pedestal in front of the library in the 400 block of South G. Street.

The plaque -- valued at around $4,000 -- has stood at the library for 25 years, the News Tribune reported. It was last seen on Friday.

Jutilla told the News Tribune he's hoping the thieves return the plaque because it would be very expensive to replace.

Anyone with information about the theft can call (253)-798-4721.
