Sound Transit cars being moved from north to South Sound
EVERETT -- Sound Transit is pulling train cars from some Sounder North commuter trains, and hooking them up to trains running in Pierce County instead, according to HeraldNet.
It's because ridership is growing in the South Sound, and shrinking in the North. Two of the four trains making round-trip runs between Everett and Seattle will be shortened by one car. The Herald reports the move will save nearly $300,000 a year, because the route has few riders.
In Pierce County, on the other hand, ridership continues to increase. In July, the south lines averaged 10,568 boardings a week. Compare that to the north line, which had 1,215 boardings weekly.
