SEATTLE - The Seattle versus San Francisco saga exceeds the gridiron wars.

For the first time, Seattle has passed San Francisco as having the largest concentration of same-sex couple households.

According to a Seattle Times report, 2.6 percent of all Seattle households comprised gay and lesbian couples, married and unmarried. That's the highest percent among the nation's biggest cities, up from 1.7 percent in 2011.

The rate puts Seattle ahead of San Francisco, where gay-couple households total 2.5 percent of all households.

It's not clear if the trends are due to couples moving to the Seattle area from elsewhere, or if more local gay and lesbian singles are coupling up.
