Seattle named gayest city in the nation

SEATTLE -- Seattle is now the gayest city in the nation. The Seattle Times reports the Emerald City has the highest percentage of gay-couple households of any city in the U.S.  New numbers from the United States Census Bureau show 2.6 percent of Seattle households are gay couples.

That knocks San Francisco out of the lead, with just 2.5 percent gay couples. The city by the Bay had held the top spot for the most gay couples since the Census Bureau began counting that statistic in 2000.

The Times says this is a sharp reversal from previous figures. Just two years ago, Seattle had only 1.7 percent gay households, while San Francisco had 2.4 percent.

Of gay households, 46 percent of Seattle's gay couples are women.
