Second victim dies from stabbing in Lacey

SEATTLE -- A second person has died from a brutal double stabbing near Lacey on Monday.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says the 67-year-old man died from his injuries today at Saint Peter’s Hospital.  Detectives say the man was stabbed by Tyler Lewis, 30, after Lewis stabbed his mother to death at her Lacey home.

Officers took Lewis into custody outside his mother's home Monday.  They believe he stabbed her to death with a screwdriver, then attacked the 67-year-old friend at his home a few miles away.

Testimony from neighbors led police to consider Lewis as a suspect, but no one expected him to show back up at his mom's house the same afternoon the murder took place.

Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney Jon Tunheim earlier this week said he would not seek the death penalty against Lewis, since there were no aggravating circumstances. However, he said if the second victim passed away, he would have to reconsider that decision.

Lewis is being held at the Thurston County Jail.
