More students take SAT in Washington this year

OLYMPIA -- Washington saw an increase in students taking the SAT in 2012, according to state education officials.

On Thursday, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction released some figures about Washington's SAT rankings. In 2012, the number of public school students who took the test went up by 4.6 percent, compared to a national increase of 0.8 percent.

Washington had one of the highest participation rates among the Western states, with 55 percent. That number was beaten only by Idaho, which had 100 percent, and Texas, with 56 percent.

As for the 2013 SAT, the College Board said 12th graders in Washington scored a combined average of 1526, while the average composite score nationwide was 1474. Overall, students in Washington scored well, especially in math.
