BTCBELLINGHAM — Classes at the Bellingham Technical College were slated to be canceled Tuesday morning following the breakdown of contract negotiations between faculty members and college administration officials.

Bellingham Education Association Team members declared late Monday night that a strike was planned for Tuesday following the dissolution of talks on the latest contract.

Tuesday was slated to be the first day of fall quarter. Classes would be canceled, but the Campus Center library was open to students from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Faculty members voted unanimously last week to strike if a contract deal was not reached by Sept. 24. Faculty members and officials continue to battle over salary issues, overall workload and the so-called “covert surveillance of college employees,” members said.
