Boy found wet, wandering alone at Nickelsville

SEATTLE -- A 7-year-old boy is in protective custody after he was found abandoned Monday evening at the NIckelsville homeless camp, Seattle police said.

Camp attendants called 911 about 8:30 p.m. from the campsite in the 2000 block of S. Jackson Street. When police arrived they found a 7-year-old boy walking around in damp clothing. He allegedly told police his mother had left him, and he did not know when she was coming back.

Officers transported the boy to the East Precinct. They also took him to McDonald's because he told police he hadn't eaten since breakfast. He was transferred into Child Protective Service's custody, police said.

Tuesday afternoon, the Department of Social and Health Services said that relatives of the boy had been located. He is currently in foster care and will return to his family, Chris Case with DSHS said.
