Police search for child abduction suspect

SEATTLE -- A 5-year-old girl escaped from her abductor and police are searching for the man who grabbed her from her bedroom while she was sleeping.

Everett police released surveillance video of the suspect carrying the girl away from the Mirabella apartment complex in the 800 block of 112th Street SE. Police said they are getting dozens of tips about the case and need the public to contact them if they have any information.

Parents who live in the area are concerned about the well-being of their children. Jason Herrera was walking his young son to a nearby day care Monday morning, he said he heard about the incident and is concerned.

“It's dangerous to know that it could happen around here,” Herrera said. "But, I watch out for this guy as much as I can -- lock the doors. make sure he’s safe.”

Jessica Brown also uses a nearby daycare. She didn’t know about the kidnapping until Monday morning.

“It’s terrifying,” Brown said. “My kids go to day care right down the street. We’re lucky because it’s one of those day cares that you have to type in your pin number just to get inside. But you never think it will happen to you, but it can happen to anybody.”

Police said the abduction happened early Saturday morning and the suspect was likely on the nearby Interurban Trail at some point.

The girl described the suspect to police as a dark-skinned man, short and with a thin build. He was wearing blue and green tennis shoes, a white hat and earrings. He had two earrings in each ear, one diamond and one gold stud. The hat was a white baseball or painters hat that he wore backwards.

Anyone with information about the abduction is asked to call police.
