Seattle students pledge not to text and drive

SEATTLE - Students at Garfield High School are joining "It Can Wait," the nationwide campaign to not text and drive.

More than third of teenagers admit to texting while behind the wheel, and the behavior is now one of the leading causes of crashes across the country. That's why the four major wireless carriers are banding together to spread the message that "It Can Wait."

Students at Garfield watched a video showing what can happen when drivers text and stop focusing on the road. They also heard personal stories from Seattle police officers and DeAndre Yedlin of the Seattle Sounders FC. They were encouraged to take the pledge to stop texting while driving, and to encourage their friends and family members to stop doing it.
