Half-naked man steals yacht, goes on rampage

SEATTLE -- Police arrested a man late Sunday night after he stole a yacht and then went on a rampage at the Queen City Yacht Club.

Police said that shortly before 11 p.m., officers responded to Portage Bay in the 2600 block of Boyer Avenue East to a report of a man who was ramming boats and the dock with a boat he was piloting.

Authorities determined the 22-year-old male suspect stole a 35-foot yacht and then began hitting other boats and the dock.

A man on the dock said he feared for the lives of other boat owners and people on the docks, so he fired a gun at the suspect. The suspect was struck in the head and hand, but was attempting to get off the yacht when officers arrived.

Police said the suspect was naked from the waist down and they believed he was high. He was treated on the scene by medics and taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect caused extensive damage to the docks at the yacht club and also damaged multiple boats. No bystanders were injured during the incident. The armed citizen was interviewed by officers and released at the scene.

When he's released from the hospital, the suspect will be booked into the King County Jail for boat theft and property damage.
