Prison guards put on leave after Castro suicide

ORIENT, Ohio-- Two correctional guards, who were on duty when Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro committed suicide, have been placed on leave.

Caleb Ackley and Ryan Murphy will remain off the job pending the results of two investigations into Castro's death.

On Sept. 4th, the 53-year-old was found hanging by a bed sheet in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center. He was pronounced dead about an hour and a half later.

Castro's attorneys said his client was initially placed on suicide watch where he was checked every 30 minutes, but he was later taken off that status.

In August, Castro pleaded guilty to more than 900 counts, including kidnapping, rape and murder after three women and a 6-year-old girl escaped from his Cleveland home after more than a decade in captivity.

Castro was sentenced plus 1,000 years when he took his own life.
