Burglar hits Seattle food bank
SEATTLE -- Someone stole thousands of dollars worth of meat from a food bank in Seattle's South Park neighborhood, said Providence Regina House Food Bank building manager, Bill Pease.
The break-in is believed to have happened overnight Saturday in the 8200 block of 10th Avenue South, Pease said.
A lock on an outdoor freezer was broken and stole $4,000 worth of choice cuts meat was stolen, but the ground turkey was left.
Pease said the theft is a huge blow to needy families in the area.
"For a lot of people this is their sole source of food for the week. And a lot of people come in with many children and to make it without meat, protein for a week, is kind of tough," Pease said.
The food bank is a constant target of thieves and video cameras were installed, but they have not been effective.
Food bank officials would like to find a larger, more secure location.
