LAKEWOOD — Duke, the Lakewood police dog who ran away from his kennel home during Thursday’s storm, was found safe and sound Friday.

“Apparently Duke wandered into a lady’s backyard and she recognized him from the media coverage and called him by his name and he responded,” Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler said Friday. “She held onto him until the police were called. He is in good health and back with the handler.”

Duke escaped Thursday afternoon from his kennel near the intersection of 208th Street and Mountain Highway in the Spanaway area, police said. Duke’s handler said the dog chewed his way out of his kennel.

Why would he even be out in this weather long enough to chew his way out. He’s 10yrs old?? That’s mean. Poor baby,i hope someone finds him and keeps him cozy!!!

This dog should not have to live outside in a kennel! Shame shame shame on his human! As a policeman..you should have compassion and common sense! This is every bit as inhumane as dogs being forced to live life at the end of a chain.
