Google broke ground Thursday on an extension that will double the size of its Kirkland campus, already the company’s third-largest engineering center in the country. The size of the expanded site is estimated at over 180,000 square feet.
Google’s Kirkland campus currently houses more than 600 employees. The expansion will include a new cafe at the site, which already has on-site fitness and massage centers, a climbing wall, cooking classes, kayak rentals, and a dog park.
“We’re excited to expand our presence in Kirkland, where we have one of our largest engineering offices outside our headquarters in Mountain View,” said Chee Chew, Kirkland Campus Director, in a news release. “This represents our commitment to the area, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with the community and the City of Kirkland.”
Construction on the expansion is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2015.
