Cop looking for traffic violator rear-ends car at red light

copsPORT ORCHARD — A Port Orchard police officer looking for a car he believed had violated a traffic law rear-ended a car stopped at a red light Friday, the Kitsap Sun reported.

The Sun said a Washington State Patrol report indicated the cause of the collision was “inattention” by Port Orchard police officer Stephen Morrison, 44.

Morrison was driving west on Tremont Street in his patrol car and looking for a car he believed had violated a traffic law when he rear-ended a 2002 Audi stopped at a light in front of him, the State Patrol report said.

According to the Kitsap Sun, the driver of the Audi, a 25-year-old Port Orchard man, was treated at Naval Hospital Bremerton. A passenger in his car was not injured.

Police Chief Geoffrey Marti said there will be an internal investigation and he will decide if there is any disciplinary action.
