Millions of Americans are popping sleeping pills

More and more Americans are turning to sleeping pills to get much needed rest.

According to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 9 million Americans rely on sleeping pills.

That's about 4% of the population.

Millions of others use over-the-counter sleep aids and herbal remedies.

The study found that white, female, older and more educated Americans are more likely to use the pills.

Experts blame obesity, social media and financial worries for the problem.

Inadequate sleep is linked to diabetes, heart disease, depression and obesity.

Adults are advised to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep, each night.
