Pit bulls maul cop, Yakima man

YAKIMA -- Police killed one dog, wounded another and captured a third, after three pit bulls attacked a Yakima police officer, then mauled a man walking his own dog.   The pit bulls were apparently strays.

First, they went after the officer, then they focused on 48-year old Eddie Gefroh.  The dogs bit the officer several times, but Eddies' injuries were worse.  It happened as he was walking his dog 'Oreo' early in the morning.

Gefroh describes the terrifying attack:  "They were not biting.  They were eating, eating me because when they were stuck to my arms, they were pulling out my tendons and nerves and every kind of tissue on me."

He has more than 150 stitches and 12 staples in his head.  Police killed one of the dogs.  The other two were found in a nearby junkyard.  Eddie credits his faith, his dog, and the police officers who helped him fend off the animals, for saving his life.
