Sounders beat Timbers in front of record crowd
The Seattle Sounders shutout the Portland Timbers 1-0 Sunday night in front of the largest soccer attendance in Seattle history.
A crowd of 67,385 packed in CenturyLink Field to witness Clint Dempsey’s home debut. It was the second largest stand-alone match in MLS history.
A goal in the 60th minute by Eddie Johnson was enough for the Sounders as they earned three points. The win leaves the Sounders level on points with FC Dallas and ahead on the tiebreaker, moving Seattle into the last playoff spot in the West with the club still holding at least two games in hand on the rest of the conference.
