SEATTLE — Drivers making their way around the Puget Sound region should prepare for delays, closures and detours as construction crews work on local road projects. It started Thursday night on the 520 bridge, where the westbound lanes were closed from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday.
In Monroe, anyone making a late exit from the Evergreen State Fair tomorrow night could run into a closure of State Route 522. The roadway will close in both directions from Echo Lake Road to Main Street from midnight Saturda through 8 a.m. Sunday. The fair closes at 10 p.m., so officials say the closure should have minimal impact on fairgoers.
The closure is needed to allow construction crews to launch girders across the Snohomish River. WSDOT is building a new bridge as part of a project to widen SR 522 from two lanes to four. Four new bridges are being built as part of the new roadway, including the 1/3-mile bridge across the Snohomish River.
To get around the closure, drivers will follow signed detours that take them onto SR 9 and US 2, which will add about 10 miles and 20 minutes to your trip.
Here’s a list of a few other road closures this weekend you could run into:
