Loud noises, weird shapes in skies above JBLM this week
TACOMA -- South Sound residents might see some weird shapes in the sky or be awakened by strange noises in the afternoon this week.
But don't be alarmed. The sound and noise is just the Marine Corps' tiltrotor aircraft.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, four MV-22B Osprey helicopters normally based at a San Diego air station will fly in the skies above Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The aircrafts will fly over the base from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The unique craft has the ability to fly both as a helicopter and a plane.
A release from JBLM called the aircraft "noticeably loud." Residents in Spanaway and Lacey will be those most likely to hear the bizarre chopper, the News Tribune reported. The testing follows a News Tribune investigation that found local base commanders didn't comply with environmental law and reach out to neighbors in advance of some helicopter training.
