STEILACOOM -- If you pass through Steilacoom on Monday, it may be an eerie experience.

Power to the town is being shut off at 8 a.m. so that workers can complete upgrades and perform maintenance on the town's only substation.

Tacoma Power is increasing the voltage on its transmission lines that flow into the substation, which is the reason for the upgrades. The outage will also give workers a chance to perform maintenance on the equipment, which is needed every decade.

Power is expected to be restored by 4 p.m. Many businesses plan to close for the day, while others may be able to run on backup generators.
