Olympia business owners, neighbors fired up over proposed homeless shelter

homelessOLYMPIA- A group of local churches is planning a homeless shelter that is causing outrage among people who live and work near the proposed site.

Interfaith Works wants to locate the 40-bed shelter at 1011 10th Ave. SE and it would reportedly have fewer rules than traditional shelters, including accepting sex offenders.

The president of the Eastside Neighborhood Association said residents didn’t learn of the proposal until reading about it in the Olympian last week.  On Tuesday, they voiced concerns at a city council meeting.

Hear from both sides on this story coming up on Q13 FOX News at 4:00 and 5:00.

Generally speaking, the street people are homeless because they love cigarettes, booze and other substances. They have lost their self esteem and are drifting like leaves in the wind.

I agree that some of the homeless are addicted to substances, but not all are, and that is the problem with people and the economy, ya they voice rage and anger now, but what are they going to do when they become homeless and have nowhere to go? Then they will be like, we should have approved that shelter. I was homeless in north bend, with my kids where there is no homeless shelter, and I wish there was one, im now stable in housing, but I will not go against a homeless shelter, I would voice concern allowing sex offenders as that is a huge issue
