A 35-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were out for a joyride late Tuesday night on State Route 167 near Milepost 12 with a Black 2009 Yamaha motorcycle. And while the ride was surely nice, the motorcycle actually belonged to the man’s 34-year-old ex-girlfriend who was driving behind the new couple in her 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, the Washington State Patrol said.
According to WSP Trooper Chris Webb, the motorcycle exited SR 166 southbound at Ellingson. The Volkswagen driver followed and intentionally rammed the motorcycle from behind, troopers said, causing the male and the female passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle. The Volkswagen then spun into the other lane and crashed into another car.
The 26-year-old woman suffered a broken arm and a possible broken leg in the crash and was transported the Valley Medical Center.
The ex-girlfriend was arrested by WSP for investigation of felony assault. The ex-boyfriend — who suffered some minor scrapes — was also arrested for driving while his license was revoked and not having a motorcycle endorsement.
The motorcycle and the Volkswagen were impounded. Each of the motorcycle riders were wearing helmets, troopers said.
SR 167 was closed for about three hours following the crash. Troopers are investigating the incident.
