PUYALLUP -- Ready to hit the stores, bust out the bong and smoke legal weed in Washington state?

One local city is saying not so fast.

The Puyallup City Council plans to discuss imposing a moratorium on recreational marijuana during a council meeting Tuesday night, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

The council will review a proposal to ban production, processing and selling pot and pot products within the city limits -- at least temporarily. The moratorium would give the city time to review regulations passed by the Washington State Liquor Control Board, which is working to finalize regulations on the product after voters passed Initiative 502.

Officials with the city said a potential moratorium would give the city a chance to study zoning regulations, licensing restrictions and processing procedures, the News Tribune reported.

"By imposing a moratorium, it preserves the status quo and allows City staff to review the final rules when adopted by the WSLCB," Deputy City Atoorney Steve Kirkelie said, the News Tribune reported.

I-502 allows those 21 years or older to smoke pot for recreational use. Pot is still illegal under federal law.
