New fire near Wenatchee forces evacuations

SEATTLE -- Lightning storms overnight sparked new fires near the existing Colockum Tarps Fire near Wenatchee, with level 2 and level 3 evacuation notices issued, said Cindy Bork, a spokeswoman for the Inter-agency Incident Management Team.

Bork said the Mile Post 10 fire started around 11 p.m. Friday night and grew to 5,000 acres Saturday evening.

50 residents are under level 2 and level 3 evacuation.

The fire is burning sage and brush and has not yet burned any trees.

35 fire personnel are responding to the fire.

A separate fire reported around 1:30 p.m. Saturday went to a third alarm near Cathedral Rock Road, said Kay McKellar. spokeswoman for the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

Residents along Cathedral Rock Road are under level 2 and level 3 evacuation order.
