Bloodhound helped police find missing girl in Normandy Park
Bloodhounds have sensitive noses, making them perfect for helping law enforcement find missing persons.
NORMANDY PARK -- A 95-pound bloodhound named Rocky helped police find a missing 7-year-old Puyallup girl last month.
He was able to find the girl, who had been missing for several hours outside of the Glenbrooke apartment complex, after tracking a scent from her shoe.
He found her a few hundred feet away, concealed by thick brush and bushes.
Rocky came to the Normandy Park Police Department in 2007 from 832 K-9 Deputy Dogs in Florida, a nonprofit organization that breeds, trains and donates bloodhounds to law enforcement agencies. The dogs are used to locate missing persons, criminal suspects or disoriented seniors.
The 832 K-9 Deputy Dogs have placed over 140 trained bloodhounds with law enforcement since 2001.
Normandy Park Police Chief Chris Gaddis says Rocky will receive an award next month in Florida for his help in finding the missing girl.
