SEATTLE — 16-year-old Hannah Anderson is missing and police say James DiMaggio kidnapped her after killing her mother, 42-year-old, Christina Anderson.
Investigators also discovered a child’s body at the scene.
They’re now trying to determine if the victim is Hannah’s brother; 8-year-old Ethan.
A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued, lighting up highway message boards including those along Interstate 5 in Seattle.
DiMaggio is believed to be driving a blue 2013 Nissan versa like this one with California license plate number 6WCU986.
The 40-year-old suspect was a family friend.
“Brett, the children’s dad, considered him a very good friend. I’ve heard a best friend. He was very close with Ms. Anderson, also. We don’t know at this point what the motive was,” San Diego County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.
Anderson, is also encouraging his daughter to get away from DiMaggio, if she can.
“Hannah, we love you very much. If you have a chance, you take it. You run. You’ll be found,” Anderson said.
A friend of the missing girl told investigators the suspect once said he had a crush on Hannah and would date her if they were the same age.
Neighbors and friends are holding vigil, praying for Hannah’s safe return.
“Hannah will come back, and Ethan and Tina I love you both. And I know everyone is here in support of all three of them,” Anderson said.
Investigators stress DiMaggio could be traveling with the blond girl or with the girl and her little brother. If you see them or the car he is driving, police say do not approach him. He’s dangerous, call 911 instead.
