Woodinville to consider use of surveillance cameras

Woodinville - The city council of Woodinville is expected to decide how and when to use surveillance videos on public street and city-owned parkland property.

The council approved the use of the new technology during a meeting in May, with the requirement that there would be written guidelines to ensure the system is used in a legal and ethical way.  The city says the Woodinville Police Department will be responsible for the cameras, with the purpose of deterring, preventing and reducing crime.

The city has set aside $55,000 for the new system, but it's not clear how many cameras that would buy or how long it would take to install.

If you'd like to add your input, the city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6 at 7 pm. The council chambers are located at 17301 133rd Ave NE in Woodinville.
