State auditor questions $17 million in payments to caregivers program

OLYMPIA -- The state Auditor’s Office has released a new report that shows caregivers involved in the “Supported Living Program” of the Department of Social and Health Services, were overpaid a half-million dollars last year.

The audit also found the state of Washington made $11.3 million in questionable payments and $5.5 million in unauthorized payments.

About 3,700 Washingtonians receive services under the program from caregivers who assist them with maintaining their homes, preparing meals, taking medications, and paying bills.
