4-year-old boy shot himself; man sought in case surrenders

SEDRO-WOOLLEY -- A man sought in connection with the death of a 4-year-old surrendered Monday, while authorities said the boy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound -- not the result of a murder, as earlier believed.

Trever Braymiller, 25, called the Sedro-Woolley Police Department and told police he was in Big Lake and ready to surrender, authorities said. Police arrested him there without incident.

Braymiller was the boyfriend of the boy's mother. Police contend it was Braymiller's gun that the boy got his hands on.

The medical examiner earlier ruled the shooting a homicide, but authorities said Monday afternoon that it was later determined that the boy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Braymiller, a felon, had fled a home in Sedro-Woolley, where the shooting took place Sunday. Police responded to the home after receiving multiple 911 calls about gunshots being fired. When they arrived, they found the boy had been shot in the head. He was later pronounced dead at the Skagit Valley Hospital.

Authorities had been searching for Braymiller since Sunday morning and recovered what is believed to be the gun used in the shooting Sunday afternoon.
