Popular local hummus recalled amid illness fears
AUBURN, Wash. -- Penny's Salsa voluntarily recalled all its hummus products, believing they were contaminated with listeria, a bacterial infection that affects primarily the elderly, pregnant woman and newborns. The hummus is sold at QFC locations in Oregon and Washington.
According to Food Safety News, the hummus products recalled are marked with use-by dates of July 13 through Aug. 25. They are sold under the Penny's Hummus brand, and include pico de gallo hummus, roasted red pepper hummus, garlic hummus and original hummus.
All merchandise has been removed from stores, and people who bought the hummus can return the item for a full refund.
No illness have been reported to date. If you think you may have contracted listeriosis, contact your healthcare provider or your local health department.
