SEATTLE — A weekend warrior packing for a hiking trip found a thief rifling through his gear Friday morning. And even after the man gave chase, the thief came back and searched for more.

According to the Seattle police, a man packing his car for a mountain hiking trip around 6:30 a.m. Friday in the 2300 block of 42nd Street was on his porch organizing his things when he spotted a suspect in his 20s rifling through the man’s car for gear. The victim confronted the suspect, who allegedly tried to jump into a black Subaru Impressa. The two fought in the passenger side of the vehicle as a second suspect began to drive the car away.

The victim let go of the suspect, but immediately jumped in his own car and tried to follow the Subaru. Police said the victim quickly lost the suspect’s vehicle and drove around looking for the man.

But while the victim was searching for the man, the same thief allegedly drove back to the victim’s house and again tried to load the victim’s hiking gear into his car. This time the victim’s wife spotted the thief before he managed to grab anything, and the suspect allegedly fled the scene yet again.

The suspect is described as a thin white male in his 20s with a blue baseball hat, a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the crime should call 206-625-5011.
